About Empowerment24 The Rachel's Angels empowerment project is a Media24 initiative that operates in the Western Cape in association with the Stellenbosch University. An identical project, the Inkwenkwezi empowerment project, operates in the Eastern Cape, in association with the Fort Hare University in Alice and Multichoice SA. The projects, which aim to contribute towards the building of excellence in high school education, were conceptualised by Proj Rachel Jafta of Stellenbosch University's department of economics. Prof Jakes Gerwel, chairman of Media24, and Koos Bekker, managing director of Naspers. The trust involves senior students from both universities and local high schools. The students participate as mentors in a programme for learners from grades 11 and 12, enabling the learners to improve their academic abilities and enrich their life skills. |
